MALEVOLENCE
Rating 3 stars ***
By Jay Carr

Written and Directed by Stevan Mena; Starring Brandon Johnson, Samantha Dark, Heather Magee, Richard Glover

“Malevolence” is a homegrown horror movie that’s a lot better than most of it’s bigger-budgeted competition. It owes a lot to “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre” and “Halloween” as it sends three fleeing bank robbers into proverbial creepy old house with cobwebbed cellar and fetishized body parts left by the deranged killer who lives there.
Still, it earns its suspense honorably as the robbers face something much worse than being caught by the cops. Brandon Johnson is the best of the lot as the one with a conscience, who tries to aid a kidnapped mother and daughter the killer would also love to hang from his meathook. This is a solid little debut from Stevan Mena.
